MAGIC Horizon Project Holds Its 4th General Assembly in San Sebastián
The MAGIC Horizon consortium successfully convened for its 4th General Assembly on 1–2 June 2026 in San Sebastián, Spain, kindly hosted by project partner VIVEbiotech. Bringing together experts from academia, industry, clinical research, patient organisations and biotechnology, the meeting marked another important milestone in the project’s mission to advance next-generation genetic therapies and innovative disease models for rare neuromuscular diseases.
Over two intensive days, consortium partners reviewed the substantial progress achieved across all work packages, presenting the latest scientific, technological and operational developments. The meeting provided a valuable forum to exchange knowledge, assess ongoing activities and coordinate the next phases of the project as it enters a crucial stage of implementation.
Several important research achievements were showcased, including technological advances, emerging scientific results and a growing portfolio of manuscripts currently being finalised for publication. Partners also discussed upcoming experimental activities, ensuring that future research efforts remain closely aligned with the project’s ambitious scientific objectives.
Beyond scientific progress, the General Assembly focused on the long-term sustainability and exploitation of project outcomes. Discussions addressed strategies for maximising the impact of MAGIC beyond the project’s lifetime, including stakeholder engagement, dissemination activities and opportunities to strengthen collaboration with complementary European initiatives to further accelerate innovation in the field of rare diseases.
One of the meeting’s defining strengths was the multidisciplinary nature of the consortium. Researchers and experts representing diverse scientific disciplines worked together to address technical challenges, refine methodologies and identify innovative solutions through collaborative discussion. This cross-sector expertise continues to be a cornerstone of the MAGIC project, fostering scientific excellence while ensuring that research remains focused on delivering tangible benefits for patients.
As the project moves into its next phase, the consortium remains committed to translating cutting-edge research into meaningful advances for people living with rare neuromuscular diseases. The collaborative spirit demonstrated in San Sebastián once again highlighted the strength of the MAGIC partnership and its shared commitment to delivering impactful scientific innovation for patients and society.
